How to Prepare EURUSD Before an ECB Decision

How to Prepare EURUSD Before an ECB Decision

The rate decision is only the first layer. EURUSD reacts to the surprise versus expectations, the projected path, and the president’s language. The statement and press conference can produce two different moves.

Build the chart or workflow

Before the event, place the TradingView economic calendar, EURUSD daily levels, and relevant euro-rate charts in one layout. Write hawkish, as-expected, and dovish scenarios without forcing exact targets.

How to interpret the result

Check whether the first move holds, then whether the press conference confirms it. A sweep that quickly returns through a key level shows rejection; a sustained close carries more information.

Common failure modes

Spreads widen and market orders can slip. Do not treat the first impulse as the final direction or reuse an old meeting template without checking current pricing.

A repeatable checklist

  1. Verify release time
  2. record consensus
  3. mark both decision zones
  4. cap event risk
  5. reassess only after the press conference
Practical questions:

Can this be used as a standalone trading signal?

No. Treat it as one piece of context. Price structure, liquidity, execution cost, and a predefined invalidation point still decide whether a trade is justified.

When should the setup be checked again?

Recheck whenever the symbol, exchange feed, interval, session definition, or indicator input changes. Those choices can materially change what the chart shows.
